Thinking about Purchasing a Health Insurance? Online?

Thinking about Purchasing a Health Insurance? Online?

Purchasing Health Insurance over internet would be the easiest thing to do. One may get several options based on his/her requirements and family size. Can compare the premium of all selected companies and can choose a company offering lesser premium. Sounds Good?... Alright.
Now think about a Real-Time situation, wherein your spouse is been hospitalized, you are not able to find your current year policy or may be you are not getting the cashless approval for some reason and you are trying to call on a number given by THAT website from where you purchased it, or trying call-center of the Insurance Company. You are now frustrated after taking continuous follow-up over phone and finally end up giving cash, thinking that you will try for reimbursement, at-least?

Guys, please understand that;
1. Saving some money on premium or compromising on quality of Insurance Company or opting for online purchases can end-up in such frustrating situations.
2. You need professional guidance and help during situation of medical emergency, which is just one call away.
3. A personal touch and help with empathy can change the complete experience.
4. Where is the Head-Office of that Insurance Company, in case of any grievance. Can you go there personally to file a complaint?
5. Where is the Head-Office of that website from where you purchased this Health Insurance. Can you go there personally to file a complaint?

How-About,
1. Purchasing your Health Insurance from a person who already has more than 10 years of experience of working at a senior level position in hospital industry.
2. Who has worked for all major and renowned hospitals of Pune.
3. Who will be just a phone call away, when you are actually in need.
4. In case of denial of cashless also, he is there to guide you for reimbursement.
5. More of your family-friend who can guide you with his knowledge of several Government Health Schemes, in-case any of your close relative is hospitalized and who does not have any Medi-Claim. Fantastic, right?

Indian investor who lost Rs.650 Crore by investing in Property !

In the latest Interview of Mr. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala is popularly known as Indian Warran Buffet, with Forbes magazine, the following interesting point I derived out of it.

Rakesh, aged 54, is worth $1.86 billion (Rs.11, 346 Crore @ 1 USD = Rs. 61).

This entire Rs.11, 346 Crore has been built during last 3 decades through investing in Indian equity market, clearly shows how big equity market is either one give time or get advice from the financial advisor to get the best return.

Though he also trades at times, most part of his wealth has come from investing in high quality companies for long term and sticking on to this even the intermittent falls.

Conviction is more important, than what we know about anything!

Jhunjhunwala bought Titan shares in 2002-03 at an average price of around Rs 5; the stock then rose to touch Rs 80 and later fell to Rs 30, but he did not sell a single share. “That Rs 30 is nearly Rs. 400 today. And when it fell from Rs 80 to Rs 30, I lost Rs 300 Crore of value in my portfolio. But I never sold as I thought that neither EPS [earnings per share] nor PE had peaked and there was a lot of growth still to come.”

He is one of the largest shareholders in CRISIL. In 2005, he has sold CRISIL shares worth Rs.27 Crore to buy a house in Mumbai. That house is now worth Rs. 50 Crore.

The annualized return from his house stands at 7% during last 9 years.

The CRISIL shares he sold for Rs. 27 Crore is now worth around Rs. 700 Crore. This works out to a whopping annualized return of 44%. The opportunity loss is Rs. 650 Crore, in addition to that 40 Crore worth of dividend.

We don’t have wealth the size of Rakesh at any point of time, but we miss wealth making opportunity like above by buying a home in the initial part of our career there by losing opportunity to create wealth through equity.

All we should do is to invest in equity in early part of the career and buy the house in the later part. Remember, your father never buy property in the beginning of his career.

The beauty of creating wealth is to enjoy, not to get struck in buying property again and again and leave it to the next generations. It is after all one life to live and equity related investment is the only asset you can enjoy during your life time. Other investments are hardly.

Since, most of our earning goes into the house; we never get an opportunity to create big wealth which equity is the only asset class which gives level playing field, capable of providing us.

It would be wiser to create wealth during the first 20 years of career through equity and then go for owning a house. There is nothing harm in staying at rented house, so that you can’t compromise many things just because you bought a house at one place.

It is time for introspection!

Do's and Don'ts for Easy Claim Settlement !

Awareness about Health Insurance is increasing in India. However, claim settlement is always considered as tedious task to achieve.

In some cases, hospitalization claims are valid, but policyholders had not submitted the necessary documents to the authority concerned, the reimbursement procedure got delayed further. Therefore, basic understanding of the healthcare plan is always essential for an easy claim settlement.

Below is a check-list on the do’s and don’ts that will make health insurance claim settlement procedure hassle-free.

Do’s
  • If policyholder opts for cashless hospitalization, then intimate the insurance company prior to getting admitted in case planned hospitalization. Contact your insurer within 24 hours of the hospitalization if there is an emergency.
  • Submit all the necessary documents if person is not admitted to a network hospital and still want a reimbursement.
  • Give right details while submitting claim settlement application. Share all important details pertinent to the subject matter of the health insurance policy to the insurer in case of pre-existing diseases at the time of proposal. It may increase the premium amount slightly, but make sure that your claim is not repudiated.
Don’ts
  • Fraud claims may lead to advantages being forfeited or cancellation of the insurance plan. In future, no insurer would interest to offer coverage to someone who perceived as dishonest.
  • Repeated and small-budget claims will increase premium and eventually, claims start to get disapproved.
  • Delay in intimating is the loss to the insurance service provider and it may works against policyholder. Hence, furnish the required documents to file a claim which should be approved easily.
And remember, for each of your hospitalization, I will always be there for you.
